Abstract
Introduction:
Securing a definitive airway is done best with an endotracheal tube placement which is itself done with the help of a laryngoscope. Difficult intubation for a trained skillful anesthetist is defined in the following three simple terms 1. Performing more than one attempt while intubation 2. Take more than 30 sec while intubation 3. Any special equipment is used for intubation. If one of these is found existing it means that there is difficult intubation. There is a pre-operative predictive test for difficult intubation which include an upper lip bite test and thyromental distance and also some other test and predictor as well such as Atlanta occipital distance thyromental distance inter incisor gap and modified Mallampati grading performed on the patient preoperatively.
Objective:
the purpose of our study is to find out the reliability of the upper lip bite test (ulbt) and thyromental distance (TMD) for difficult intubation. Methods: a comparative cross-sectional study will be conducted. Samples of 360 patients will be selected among the population presenting for general anesthesia with tracheal intubation at the northwest general hospital and research center. A total of 360 patients will be divided into two groups, group u, and group t. Each group will comprise 180 patients, the ulbt test will apply to group u patients and the TMD test will be applied to group t patients.
Methods;
this comparative cross-sectional study will be conducted .sample of 360 patients will be selected among the population presenting with general anesthesia with treacle intubation a total of 360 patients will be divided into two groups each group will comprise 180 patients
Results: The result arrives at show in the table it is more authentic than TMD. Table 1. About ulbt and it contains a true positive percentage of 15.55 and a false negative is 1.11 %. These occur in 3 classes only. In the TMD, the true positive percentage was 19.22 and the false positive percentage is 2.77% in class 2 true negative was 24.44, in the same class the false negative are 8.88.
Conclusions:
compare ulbt classification shows less conflict and result than thyromental distance, so can be considered more authentic for the prediction of difficult intubation. Most of the cases were predicted easy but the resulted in difficult intubation
