COMPARISON OF GLENOHUMERAL ROTATIONAL RANGES BETWEEN FAST BOWLER AND SPIN BOWLERS AND THEIR SUB TYPES IN CLUB CRICKETERS

ABSTRACT

 

BACKGROUND:

The Shoulder Complex function as governor of the forces generated by the Lower Extremity (LR) and trunk during bowling.  These forces and governing function put a lot of stresses on the glenohumeral joint.

Objective:

To determine the comparison of the glenohumeral rotational range differences between fast bowlers and spin bowlers and their sub types by using Inclinometer.

Methods:A comparative Cross-Sectional Study-probability Purposive Sampling technique was used to recruit the study participants. Inclinometer was used tocollect data from 221 bowlers.

Results:The result showed that Lt. IR was greater in spin bowlers as compared to fast bowlers (P<0.05). furthermore, Rt. ER was greater in mixed subtype of fast bowlers as compared to side-on fast bowlers and front-on fast bowlers (P<0.05). Independent t test showed that Rt. ER was greater in finger spin bowlers as compared to wrist spin bowlers (P<0.05).

CONCLUSION: A significant right sided external rotation difference was present in mixed subtype of fast bowlers (2.83°) and finger spin bowlers as compared to other subtypes of fast and spin bowlers (2.58°). Left sided internal rotation was greater in spin bowlers as compared to fast bowlers (3.26°). Moreover, GHJ IR is lesser than GHJ ER in both fast and spin bowler’s sub-types. ER is greater than IR in dominant shoulders as compared to non-dominant shoulders. Accumulatively ER is 4.59° greater and IR is 6.89° lesser in dominant arm as compared to non-dominant arm.
