Patient Satisfaction, Quality of Life and functional capability among Lower limb amputees using prosthesis and assistive Devices: A Comparative Study

Background:
A lower-limb prosthesis (LLP) is essential to enhance one’s physical capabilities, self-perception, and ability to carry out everyday tasks on one’s own Lower-limb prosthetics are crucial for increasing the level of activity and improving their ability to walk. Prosthetics improve functional mobility, compensate for diminished or low levels of an amputee, and prevent the loss of future functional capacity. User satisfaction manifests the degree of the user’s primary concern by identifying aspects associated with the device and services. It is a perception, a way of thinking, and discernment about the needs related to the quality of the device and services.
Objectives: The objective of this study is to determine the level of independence in doing functional activities in prosthesis and assistive device users. Also, to find out their satisfaction level with their device and professional services.

Methods: A comparative Cross-Sectional Study is used for this study. For sampling purposes, we used Non-probability consecutive sampling techniques to recruit the study participants. We collected data from 152 amputees using Prostheses and Assistive Devices.

Results: The present study concluded that prosthesis use in lower limb amputees gives more independence to them to perform their functional activities such as dressing, toilet use, mobility, transfer from bed to chair, and climbing stairs. The three most satisfactory variables for quest 2.0 for prosthesis users are safe and secure. Easy to use and comfortable, while the three most satisfactory variables for the Quest 2.0   are ease of use, and grammatical error.

Conclusion: It is concluded that prosthesis users can easily perform functional activities independently compared to assistive device users. Prosthesis users are more independent than assistive device users in performing daily essential activities. Our study shows that prosthesis users are more satisfied with their prosthetic devices and professional services compared to the satisfaction of assistive devices (
