Assessment of fatigue in hearing impaired children in special education centers Peshawar. A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract

Background: Hearing disability is one of the most widely recognized handicaps in the UK and worldwide.Around the world,60% of cases are believed to be unneeded and less than 10% universally approach the consultation support they need.Childhood hearing impairment can affect on advancement, discourse, language, hear-able handling, listening abilities, conduct, confidence, personal satisfaction and learning.

Objective.  The purpose of this study was to check fatigue in children with mild to moderately severe hearing Impairment.

Methods. A cross-sectional survey was conducted using FAS Questionnaire to quantify fatigue. The sample size was 244 children with 136 males and 108 females from special education centers Peshawar. The data was analyzed and presented in the form of frequencies and percentages.

Results. According to the sample size of 200 children in which 136 were male and 108 were females. The frequency of male is higher than females. Data was collected with the help of FAS a 10 item scale with the scoring of <20=no or normal fatigue, >20=highest fatigue. Our results showed that fatigue was found in all children but 30% shows highest level of fatigue.

Conclusion.The conclusion of our study is that fatigue was found in all children with HI and 30% showed highest level of fatigue. Further research must be done on this topic as literature lacks knowledge in this area. Due to lack of concentration and proper attention, fatigue level is high, if community and literature provide them attention the level of fatigue may decrease in  HI children.
