Comparison Between Propofol, Ketamine, And Combination Of Both To Find Out Drug Of Choice, Post-Operatively For Day Care Surgery

Abstract:

Background: Participants are selected in the study based on the convenience random sampling technique. It was found that all these drugs are effective but the combination of both drugs(ketamine+propofol) shows more effectiveness in a daycare surgery post-operatively. It minimizes the requirement of the opioid analgesic, post-operative nausea vomiting, delirium and duration of hospital stay with good efficacy in MAP.

Aim and objective: The Objective of this study is to determine which drug propofol, ketamine, and Ketofol are more effective in a daycare surgery post-operatively.

Methodology: The data has been collected through a comparative cross-sectional observational study at Northwest General Hospital Peshawar, Northwest Teaching Hospital Peshawar, and Shahab Orthopedic and General Hospital Peshawar, Pakistan. The study period was from April 2022 to September 2022. The study includes all patients who were admitted for elective surgical procedures and willing to participate, a pre-design Performa was instrumented for data collection, and Performa has three groups. One is group K which has been given ketamine, the second is group P which has propofol and the third group is KF which has been given ketamine+propofol (ketofol). Data about different variables were recorded and analyzed by SPSS 22 version.

Result: Group K has a 54 frequency, Group P has a frequency of 10 and Group KF has a frequency of 24 Group K has a frequency of 60, Group P has a frequency of 25, and Group KF has a frequency of 15 respectively showing effects of delirium

Conclusion: For Daycare anesthesia, ketamine+propofol (ketofol) was the best choice of drug as compared to propofol and ketamine for elective surgical procedures.
