Abstract
Background: The American Society of Anesthesiologists, (ASA) physical grade classification system is the system of classification for measuring the fitness of patients before surgery.
Currently, anesthetics mortality contributes to less than 10% of all operative mortality. Despite this decrease, preoperative mortality is also important as it will bring care and improvements in preoperative care. According to the American Society of Anesthesia the incidence of mortality rate in status 1 and status 2 ranges from 0.02-0.04 per 10, 000. Assessment of this mortality makes the system control health-related problems.
Aim of the study: Mortality with AmericanSociety of Anesthesiologists physical status (asap) classification class (i, ii, iii) after neurosurgical procedures.
Materials and methods:The study was conducted in neurosurgical IrfanGeneral Hospital Peshawar from January to June 2018. Non-probability/ convenient sampling technique was used in this research. A cross-sectional study was conducted.
Results:Total patient is 173 most of the patients 111 were male while 67 patients were female. the number of discharged patients was 157 (90.8) while the remaining 16 (9.2) patients were expired. According to ASA classification in ASA class, I have 39 (22.5%) of the total patients in which all patients were discharged while no patients expired. ASA class II has 99 total patients of which 95 patients were discharged while 4 (4.04%) patients were expired. ASA class III has 35total patients of which 23 patients were discharged while the expiry in this class was high which is12 (34.2%) patients.
Conclusion: Our study concludes that the mortality of ASA I, II, and III is 9.2% in patients after neurosurgical procedures. The incidence of mortality in ASA classes I, II, and III is more common in males as compared to females. The mortality among ASA classification is higher in ASA III as compared to others.
