Impact of social interdependence on emotional well-being of medical students in Peshawar

Abstract

A cross sectional study was conducted on emotional wellbeing comprising 282 students from 4 medical colleges of Peshawar. They sample was divided as follows; 120 from KMC, 54 from KGMC, 54 from PIMS and 54 from NWSM. Multistage sampling and simple random sampling was carried out and data was collected. A questionnaire comprising 21 questions was used to measure social and emotional wellbeing of students. Each question carried four points for response, which was graded according to the Lickert scale for well being

Results: Positive association between emotional wellbeing and age (p value0.029) was established. There was no difference in emotional wellbeing in association with gender (P value 0.282). There was no difference in emotional wellbeing in association with (class) year of subjects (0.424).There was no difference in emotional wellbeing in association between a hosteliteor a day scholar (0.665). There was no difference in emotional wellbeing in association with mother’s occupation and father’s occupation ( p value 0.315 and 0.127) .There was no difference in emotional wellbeing in association with private or public college subjects ( p value 0.603).
