The Assessment Of Patient’s Satisfaction Towards Radiographer’s Communication In Ct Scan At A Tertiary Care Hospital Peshawar

BACKGROUND: Patient’s satisfaction is an important and a commonly used indicator for measuring the quality in healthcare. It increases the clinical outcomes, improves patient’s retention and helping in reducing malpractice claims. It also affects the efficiency and patient-centered delivery of quality of care. Communication plays a vital role in accomplishment of radiographic exams because some of the patients often respond differently from the instructions given by the radiographer during the examinations and may result in time wastage and repeat of examination and make the result insignificant. In Khyber Pakhutunkhwa there is no information regarding this issue. Hence, the aim of this study is to identify the patient’s satisfaction towards radiographer’s communication at a tertiary care hospital at NWGH.

METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in a private tertiary care hospital Peshawar. This study was started in January and ended in June 2019. Data was collected on a self- administered questionnaire and analyzed by using SPSS version 22.

RESULT: There were total 218 participants and the response rate was 100%.  Among of them 124 (56.9%) were male participants and 94 (43.1%) were female participants. Those who received friendly greeting were 123 (56.4%) while 95 (43.6%) were not received.107 (49.1%) patients received sympathy from radiographer towards their conditions and 52 (23.9%) have only received empathy out of 218 participants. Effective communication among the 218 patients was observed only by 114 (52.3%) and 104 (47.7%) were not observed it. The main purpose of this study was patient’s satisfaction which has been observed by the 110 (50.5%) and were found satisfied while 108 (49.5%) of the patients were not satisfied from the radiographer.

COCNLUSION:It has been concluded from the study that radiographer’s communication and patient’s satisfaction is strongly related to each other. Those patients who observed proper communication, body language, eye contact, positive facial expressions, respect, sympathy and empathy were found more satisfied which shows a correlation between the patient’s satisfaction and radiographer’s communication.
