IMPACT OF COVID 19 ON PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH IN URBAN AND RURAL AREAS OF KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: World Health Organization announced Corona Virus which is also called COVID-19as a disease on 11th February 2020. It is a respiratory disease that affects the health of the individual and whole worldwide drastically.

METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study in which a non-probability sampling technique was used. Data wascollected from people of rural and urban areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of which 50% were rural and 50% were urban. Data was collected through questionnaires in which IPAQ was used to determine impacts on physical health and DASS was used to determine impacts on the mental level of the urban and rural populations. The study duration for this study was 6 months. SPSS version 25 was used for data analysis.

RESULTS: To find out the relation between Total Met and DASS Total, the Man Whitney test was used .The mean rank value of the rural population was 314.29 with median (IQR) 15 (23) and Urban Mean rank=678.86 and Median (IQR) 15(23) the p-value was .00<.5 means that there was the relation between physical activity and mental health.In urban areas population of the mental depression was more as compared to rural areas. Total Met value in rural areas Mean Rank value 4050(52430) and P-value <.05 while in urban population Total Met value Mean rank=454.53 Median (IQR) 4050 (5243) P-value =.00.

CONCLUSION: This study provides an idea of the pretext of mental and physical health conditions of rural and urban communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our finding suggests that decreasing physical activity, being restricted to environmental exposure and social stigmatization is the key factor of increasing distress and anxiety among the population
