Background
Spinal anesthesia is most frequently applied anesthesia procedures. However, Spinal anesthesia failure rate varies between 1 and 17%.
Aims:
The aims of this study is to find out the Incidence of failed spinal anesthesia in urology patient undergoing surgical procedures at North West General Hospital and Research Center Peshawar
Material and Methods.
The study design was cross sectional descriptive study. The sample size of this study was 45. The sampling technique was non probability convenient sampling technique. Patients of both gender male and female of age ranging from 35 to 80 years were included. Only patients having (American Society of Anesthesiology) ASA grade 1 and grade 2 with elective surgeries of urology under spinal anesthesia were included in this study. Patients with emergency urology surgeries or patients having vertebral abnormalities like scoliosis, lordoxiss, kyphosis or trauma to the vertebral column were also excluded from this study,
Results:
Our study shows 0% failure rate of spinal anesthesia with regards to followstandard protocol and overcoming technical errors.
Conclusion:
From our study we conclude that by Identifying avoidable cause of inadequate spinal block, can help to minimize the incidence of failure. Following standard protocol for spinal anesthesia under the observation of experienced anesthesiologist technical factors which contribute to failure could be control
