FREQUENCY OF TYPE 1 AND 2 DIABETES MELLITUS PATIENTS ON THE BASIS OF DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS AT DIABETES HOSPITAL AND RESEARCH CENTER, PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN

ABSTRACT

Background: The prevalence of diabetes mellitus has risen exponentially over the Last three decades, with resultant increase in morbidity and mortality mainly due to complications. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disorder that is characterized by raised blood glucose level (hyperglycemia A long term hyperglycemia is related to damage, Failure and dysfunction of different organs, particularly the eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart, and veins. Aim of this study was to interpret the frequency of type I and type 2diabetes mellitus patients on the basis of laboratory diagnosis.

Methodology: This is a cross sectional study carried out at Diabetes Hospital and Research Centre Peshawar Pakistan.

Results: This study includes 100 patients of diabetes mellitus which are diagnosed in laboratory of Diabetes Hospital and Research Centre. Out of 100 cases, 49(49.0%) were male and 51(51.0%) were female, majority cases belong to the age groups 15-50 years. HBAIC level was found elevated in 81(81.0%) patients .Raised levels of RBS were observed in 69(69.0%) patients. Of the total, 10(10.0%)patients were insulin dependent, 10% (10.0) patients were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus and 76(76.0%) patients were found to be type 2 diabetes mellitus.Obesity was found in 32(32.0%) patients and 41(41.0%) have hypertension. Mostor the affected females were of the age 30-50 years.

Conclusion: After the evaluation of the 100 patients in 4 months’ studies shows thediagnostic examination, it is concluded that to diagnose the diabetic patients the laboratory tests to identify the diabetes mellitus because the laboratoryplays crucial role in the evaluation of the nature of disease and organ damage
